RETCON: ‘Retroactive Continuity’ — generally used in science fiction and fantasy to re-write historical lore to make it conform to modern interpretations. That’s what the BBC is doing to their new series on The Norman Conquest: William I of Normandy’s successful invasion of the British Isles and the defeat of the Anglo-Saxon King Harold at the Battle of Hastings.

I have had a problem with our portrayal of Jesus for quite a while. He was descended from Jews, not white. The Bible teaches that it is shameful for a man to have long hair. Of course this was only practical as long hair is quite a detriment when fighting, which was quite common in those days. Jesus was also brought up in Joseph’s home. Children were brought up being taught the craft of their parents, in this case carpentry. Have you ever seen a person who works as a carpenter? They tend to be powerfully built! Now, imagine it… Read more »

This all started with that “We waz Kangz” BS, and some fools believing that Wakanda was real.
Now the “Retconquistas” want to take credit for every invention and advance in human civilization.

“Einstein? Naw, he stole his theory from his black roommate, Ko’Nela.
Marie Curie? B!tch took credit for the discoveries of the lab assistant, LaQuisha.”

They have NOTHING to call their own in the way of advancements, so they are bound and determined to steal every bit of civilization from the Europeans and Americans.

… and the operative word there is “steal”. Theft being the preferred route to acquisition and recognition. Which really, really does a grave injustice to minorities who are willing to work hard, apply themselves and earn the actual, genuine respect of everyone else. I have a friend who’s a Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. (Ret). The guy is an absolute credit to humanity. He happens to be Filipino and his wife is a jewel among her gender. He hates this stuff even more than I do because he’s even more of a victim of it than I am. Sadly the Left… Read more »

What about the play Hamilton? I haven’t seen it, but I understand it’s the most profound, historically and artistically magnificent piece of stage craft, written and performed, EVAH! And that includes all that stuff written by the Bard himself. And we all know why.

Now just what do you suppose would happen if a theater company were to stage Hamilton with (gasp!) a white guy playing the lead? I think we all know. I wish somebody would.

I think that it already qualifies as a catastrophe without the cast modifications suggested. I dislike it so much that I cannot watch it or listen to the soundtrack for more than a few minutes … tops. I consider it to be trash, but then, like so many human males before me, I’ve become my Dad. If a musical is must be watched, then may I suggest The Sound of Music or Disney’s Newsies starring a young Christian Bale.

My wife introduced me to Newsies. It was made before “woke” took over Disney, so there’s that in its favor.

I watched it when it was broadcast. It’s not bad, just I am too old to appreciate the “music”. However, I wish all those folks who lauded it as “groundbreaking” had actually listened to some of the words being rapped / sung / spoken. While I find he works incredibly lengthy, Chernow’s bio of Hamilton was most of the source material. There are lessons to be learned in there. It’s just that most people focused on “wow, look the cast is black except for evil King George” So, if that was the big deal, then no, The Wiz did that… Read more »

Um, you mean besides the fact that it sucks? I couldn’t sit through 10 minutes of it, nor that other one. What was it? …

Ah yes, the musical “1776” by Peter Stone. It was so unmemorable I had to look it up. That blew chunks too. My buddy wanted to watch it for movie night and I put the cank on it after 10 minutes. The Founding Fathers were not a bunch of singing Fruit Loops.

I’m OK with the U.S. not being perfect. The founders used the phrase “more perfect” in the Declaration of Independence. “More perfect” is the ideal and the goal.

It’s those people who are taking us in the opposite direction of more perfect that really chap my hide.

I had no problem with it (my wife would play it all of the time) until the cast insulted the Vice President to his face. After that, they were dead to me.

Found the story, it was only three months after, neither the firemen nor the photographer attended although they were invited.

They tried it in NYC on something that happened in this century, the famous 9/11 flag raising was done by three friends, all white guys from Staten Island, one of whom I know well, my sister knew all three. The powers that be unveiled a model of a proposed statue of the event just a few years later. Before the unveiling I noticed that the real guys were not present at the ceremony which I thought was odd. When the curtain was removed they had a black, a Hispanic, and I don’t remember what the other was. There was an… Read more »

This should be surprising to noone, because the UK has been conquered — essentially bloodlessly based upon current birthrate statistics — by the Muslims. History is always written/rewritten by the victorious invaders.

This touches very close to home. I left a job I loved, at a place I still love, at least in part over just this neo-Marxist kulturkampf. From 2003 to 2020 I worked at Hampton Court Palace. I was involved in various things, and did a lot of work with costumed interpretation. I was a Yeoman of the Guard to Henry VIII on a number of occasions and I delivered tours in period costume too. Although certainly set out to entertain the public, we took historical accuracy seriously. The palace is still Crown property, and the charity that runs it… Read more »

Sad that you left a gig that you enjoyed, but good on ya for having the strength of character to say what’s wrong is wrong.

Very balanced, seriously. There is a youtuber out there who discusses accuracy in historical women’s clothing. One obvious point is that anyone who is not actual royalty would have more than two or three outfits, if I understood it correctly (no ready-made clothing). Of course, I’m Jewish, and we were banned from the kingdom (although I suspect there may have been special cases).

I know this is not relevant to what you did, but technically heroines should be pale, with double chins and a belly.

Thank you. Yup, Edward I officially expelled all Jews from England in 1290 Some of the Italian merchants in the City of London were Jews though, and you’re right, there were special exemptions made, like the physician from Bologna who came over to treat Henry IV in 1410. Some of the Sephardim expelled from Spain in the 1490s settled in England. The Reformation made a difference to attitudes to Jews in England and Judaism generally. Although there were still some official attempts to enforce the ban, it was more “honoured in the breech than the observance.”. It wasn’t until 1655,… Read more »

Yeah, then Bill could get YOUR retconned version of history instead of the BBC retconned version of history. You are every bit as bad about this stuff as the topic of this episode. James W. Loewen, who wrote “Lies my Teacher Told Me” was a Leftist anti-white racist and deconstructionist whose main purpose in writing that book was to throw shade on, and slander at, well known and respected American historical figures. He studiously ignored the amazing good things and astonishing accomplishments of those people and accented every little failure he could dig up in his pit of manure. In… Read more »

Has anyone else noticed that when all of this race/gender swap in entertainment crap started that the phrase “cultural appropriation” disappeared from The Radical Left’s vocabulary?
