Off topic but, Happy 65th Birthday, Bill.
We’ve all known that facing and then reconciling the national debt was going to be a huge problem, especially given the voting support for entitlement programs. The tariff option is one we hadn’t been prepared for as a possibility. Instillation of tariffs has a chance to contribute to slowing down the debt. It’s going to take a president who doesn’t care about re-election to try a long game solution. Blurting out things like a possible third term is a distraction. He’s been cranking out distractions consistently. Other issues like renaming the Gulf of America, acquiring Greenland, the Panama Canal, and… Read more »
I think Trump will leave it to Vance and who ever is his VP but will be the most active ex-president in history.
Until now officially that title goes to George W Bush and to Obama unofficially.
Trump is trolling and distracting the left. If you’re getting discombobulated then your self identifying as a leftwing moron. I’ve been talking about Trumps tactics for years. Written Jan 2017. “”Trumpism 101 Trump tweets something insane early in the morning. Social media explodes. The left explodes and calls Trump fascist! The MSM makes sure everyone reads the tweet by the morning news and points out how dangerous it is. The left is still busy swearing at Trump. Conservative and libertarian sites point out that Trump’s plan will fail and points out their solution. Legislation miraculously matching the conservatarian solution promptly… Read more »
George washing ton was NOT the first president. The United States Declared its independence in 1776, yet Washington did not take office until April 30, 1789. The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation. This document was actually proposed on June 11, 1776, but not agreed upon by Congress until November 15, 1777. John Hanson was the first president of the United States and served a one year term.
The Articles of Confederation failed. Had our newly independent nation continued under the Articles of Confederation it would have ceased to exist. Among the many deficiencies of the Articles of Confederation were the inability to deal with internal and external threats, economic chaos and lack of coherent foreign policy. The Articles of Confederation were never more than a stopgap hastily implemented after independence was declared. Under the Articles of Confederation there was a nation, loosely speaking, that called itself The United States of America but there was little or nothing united about it. The Articles of Confederation were basically nothing… Read more »
I was wondering when you’d finish ammoing up your word gun and let fly. If I had time I would have done it myself, but then again, you seem to enjoy it so much, so you are welcome to it. Only one addition I haven’t gone into much thought on. Notice it’s Articles of Confederation, and in the war of sucession. (Civil War*) the south was the confederate states. Hmmmmm… *Civil wars in any other circumstance are two groups fighting to get or maintain control of a single goverment. Our “Civil war” was a war to secede and create a… Read more »
I would not read too much into the confederation word. I do not have a handy list, but it was used for other government’s names as well, though is probably not defined well enough for anyone to be pedantic about. Same sort of issue with state versus nation and other such words.
Looking it up, you are right. I looked at the Confederate Stated constitution and it’s very similar to ours. Exception: a lot about slavery, including banning import of slaves from outside of the Confederate states or territory. I guess they didn’t want a flood recently devaluing slave prices.
They had it so that any law had only one item and it had to be in the title of the law. I guess no “Build back better” bill for them.!😏
… It’s a little like shooting fish in a barrel, or pulling wings off flies. I don’t make a habit of doing either of those things but I confess to a weakness for slagging on the willfully stupid. I have no civil regard for self-inflicted idiocy. Which is a fault I’m not likely to overcome at my age.
I just wish ol’ Komrade Donny would debate me, that would be a real hoot. Alas, I perceive he doesn’t wish to grant me that profound degree of amusement. Probably a good move as far as he’s concerned.
I am going to nitpick your nitpick. Sometimes it will be mentioned that “Country X” is on its 3rd (or 4th, or 5th) government since WWII (this century, the last 200 years, etc). Often referring to France, Germany, or other countries in Europe that formed and reformed in the same geographical area after wars and such. The same could be said about the US (or what would be). The 13 colonies declared their independence from the King of England and formed the continental congress though each had their own colony/state government as well. Post war, they created the Articles of… Read more »
3rd term: Yah, GOP bench is strong in heart & personality, but Trump’s FU wealth is hard to bribe, coerce or compete with. 12th Amendment states “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” The 22nd Amendment prohibits anyone from being ELECTED president more than twice, but a former 2-term president is also ineligible to serve as vice president. Debate is on whether 22nd Amendment technically prevents a former president from SERVING as president again or just from being ELECTED to office. Current thought: 2-term president is constitutionally… Read more »
Tariffs: Disagree w/Steve. Alternative view is that it not a TRADE war, but rather, a RATE war. Tariffs may be a USA LONG-term anti-recession strategy. Why? The USA must roll over $9.2T Treasury bonds (maturing 2026). Today 10-Year U.S. Treasury yield RATE (~4%) is what matters, as every basis point (0.01%) translates into $1Billion in interest saved. OK, so how to reduce rate? Easy, force the economy to slow down via Tariffs (& buy USA nationalism) to deflate mid-term growth expectations (realize this tends toward short-term inflation), which lowers capital demands, and prods FED to lower rate. BINGO! Actually sounds more like… Read more »
Every single time there’s a second term someone brings up ‘duh, he could run for vice president’ no, if you’re not eligible to run for President you’re not eligible to run for Vice President.
I believe that the constitution says if you are not eligible to be president then you can not be elected as vice president.
The only Republicans that have been affected by the 22nd amendment are Eisenhower, Reagan,Trump and W, three of them would’ve been too old to run a third time and W had lost all support. The blessed 22nd amendment saved us from Clinton and Obama and probably Hillary we would’ve had Democrats from 1993 to now if it were not for it.
No. Just no. As vigorous as DJT is for a man of his age, it is apparent that time is catching him. Let’s not press for something akin to what the Democrats foisted upon us for four years of POTUS 46: a doddering zombie.
That being said, troll-on Donald.
