How far have the pathologies of the inner cities spread into the suburbs? Well, to judge from Bill’s recent experience in Santa Monica, the answer seems to be enough so that rampant lawlessness is absolutely routine.

Real, debilitating, disabling, mental illness is comparatively rare. It is by no means nonexistent but it’s not, thank God, a common thing either. What is much, much more common is a disabling mental problem brought on by external influence. Sometimes it’s from an accident that causes a brain injury. Much more common, and the problem plaguing our Blue city streets, is brain damage caused by inhalants and drugs. When an addict can’t get drugs he can get cheap inhalants like paint thinner and worse. That’s where they turn when they can’t get their drug of choice. Wealthier addicts don’t have… Read more »
“If it feels good, do it”….ACTS…. that’s so 1960’s ……wait…wut? Ohhhhhh.
Yes, that’s how we got here. Clever boy, help yourself to a cookie from the cookie jar.
Cookies…Yes please.
What – root cause evaluation and then trying to find a solution?? This is government if they do that there is no bottomless pile of money to dole out.
My cynicism is high this morning. The problem you stated could be solved but it is not the problem the elites are working on.
Sadly the major problem the elites keep working on is how to increase the power and wealth of the elites. Tragically they do this at the expense of everyone else and with complete disregard for the consequences they generate.
If the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled off is getting people to deny his existence then the greatest trick the elites have pulled off is that they care so much about their fellow man that you should vote for them.
RSAE…..here’s your Root Cause! Or, root canal, whatever…..both are painful.
That one is dumber than a root-uh-baga!
Brilliant, no. Crafty? Possibly….Cunning? Gawd I so much want to break out an old line from Austin Powers Goldmember….but unfortunately, she’s not a cunning linguist.
A Venn diagram of the worst affirmative action hire / dumbest politician ever / best POTUS insurance policy would be a circle around that photo.
You guys are dang near as mean as me. Keep working on it, you’ll get there. 😉
Two thoughts. Another population inclined to out-of-control behavior is that of individuals who have suffered severe brain trauma. I know of a case caused by a head-on car collision. After recovery, the victim’s character changed fundamentally inclining him to rage and preventing him from keeping a job. When the power to control criminals is in the power of the state, it can rely on rituals such as uniforms, legal codes, police procedures. To relegate that power to individual citizens removes the rituals and results in much more real costs to society. I just listened to Jonathan Pageau’s talk on ritual… Read more »
Vice is a monster of so frightful mien
That to be hated needs but to be seen
But seen too oft, familiar with its face
We first endure, then pity, then embrace. Alexander Pope
This is a single incident that Bill happened to be present to witness. This sort of thing is going on all over Santa Monika and metropolitain Kalifornia all day, every day, day in and day out, 24/7/365. It will only get worse because it must get worse. The zoo is being run from the Monkey House by the monkeys. I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again and I’ll keep saying it. Bill needs to GTFO of there. It’s a terrible place to live and whatever benefits can still be derived from living there will continue to erode to the… Read more »
I wonder if the proper way to go after the ORCs isn’t on the theft side but on the mass sale of stolen goods. That would be both over $1000 and possibly felonies, and provably not “just a loaf of bread” but instead a business.
Likely, considering the political climate in the places where this is a problem, the powers that be would just change the law to decriminalize or make that quasi-legal too. Or instruct police and prosecutors to just ignore these crimes.
The problem is not the Law, the problem is that the law is not being enforced or it is being diluted so that it cannot be enforced.
Gee, I wonder where these came from? On Craigslist.com today. Listing in Sunnyvale, CA. Bay Area.
I’m only guessing at this point, but it’s quite possible old Craig of Craigslist is a willing fence for the ill gotten gains of the organized retail crime gangs.
I mean really….WHO GOES TO CRAIGSLIST FOR RAZORS????
Not just the Bay Area….Bill’s neighborhood too. I ALWAYS wanted a Hiar Clipper. Now I can get one cheap on Craigslist. Courtesy of my local Organized Retail Crime gang….hey Rob Bonta, top cop of California, why not bust fences on Craigs list!
Thats pretty much it. It would not take much to trawl the listinga on cl and ebay, visit the people selling questionable quantities of items and see what they see. Easy to avoid claims of raciam too since the posters dont have profile pictures or other indications.
Am so digging this approach. I) bet you they have more than razors. As in an entire Walgreens worth of inventory. Road trip to Sunnyvale. Hidden camera in hand.
Meanwhile in Seattle, students are getting terrorized on their way home from school
I am not buying into the ‘mental illness’ thing…people acting crazy does not equal mental illness. For the most part it means that the crazies seem to think they are ‘owed’ something they have not earned. And where are they getting that ill idea from…?
Just had a very lengthy, across the dinner table, discussion about this subject with my ultra ultra ULTRA democratic sister in law. California delegate and all that. she’s 75, and remembers Agnews State Hospital in Northern California. Shut down do to budgetary and liberal concerns back in the 60’s by then Gov Reagan, those hospitals provided that safe place for the crazies. Those hospitals, some peaceful sanctuaries, some dreadful poorly run nightmares, have been gone for decades. I used the leftist canard of “why don’t those rich people pay for big tracks of land, some pre-fab’d hovels, plumbing and most… Read more »
A phrase that helped me make my peace with Lefties who are so howlingly wrong is a simple one – “You can’t reason someone out of a position they haven’t reasoned themselves into”
Your sister-in-law and the Democrats do not have a monopoly on this sort of behavior. The same crap happens in here all the time too. It’s just that the rationalization and sophistry is on our side but it’s still rationalization and sophistry. Try to have a conversation with a Trump Zealot about Donald Trump’s faults if you need a good example. Or do what I did and lay out the problems and the fixes for the situation in the Middle East right now just to have someone use my post to whine about our political opponents. Etc. When people won’t… Read more »
Now that old sis in law has just survived a pretty gnarly tumor removal near her heart/lung/voicebox (it was rather large), and now that our time of sister care is complete, we’ll get together once again in healthier circumstances and I’ll broach the subject again. If she goes in the predicted direction I think, I’ll use ACTS tactic of ‘ what do we do NOW’, as in “together” to help humanity? Will report the results in a future blog post. BTW today’s report of billionaires contributing to the latest save San Francisco campaign, named “It all Starts Here” about how… Read more »
I love having conversations with people like your sister-in-law. Especially when I can goad them, politely and civilly, into being snarky and condescending. Like … “How does what Reagan did 40 years ago excuse what is going on today? Democrats claim to have all the answers to every social ill. Why are things getting worse and worse instead of improving? Why are so many people fleeing California if things are so wonderful here? It can’t be because things are so much worse in the rest of America, if that were so they’d be fleeing to here not from here. So… Read more »
One clarification to add for the subsequent discussion – Reagan hasn’t been Gov of CA for almost 50 years. Also the push to eliminate Psychiatric Hospitals did not come from the political right. “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was a 1975 film but the book was from 1962. The exposure of how bad Psych hospitals were started in the 60s and even then no one had a solution. So rather than spend more bad money, Reagan turned off the spigot. Since 1975 there have been 7 Governors (well technically 6 as Jerry Brown was twice non-consecutively) 3 R (if… Read more »
I look forward to when the Civil war starts because ALL these people will die just like in the purge. I have seen men defending themselves when women slap them by slapping the women back and people celebrating
Don’t hope for a Civil War. Neither us Normals nor The Radical Left will like the outcome.
I hope you don’t mean an actual Civil War but are speaking metaphorically. Because I’ve seen an actual Civil War up close and personal. You wouldn’t want that if you knew what it involves. Life is not a movie, there is no script with the Good Guys winning at the end. Anything like The Purge is the end of America. Citing that movie is a sick, absurd fantasy. If you’re serious you should seriously be ashamed of yourself. If an actual Civil War is what you are looking forward to then that’s as insane as anything concocted by the Left.… Read more »
That’s a red line we really don’t want to cross. If you do, Life doesn’t go on as normal, Walmarts don’t keep selling toilet paper, toilets don’t keep flushing, clean water doesn’t keep flowing through pipes, truckers don’t keep delivering canned goods, when we’re all killing each other. The frustration is real, but the sentiment puts us in a place of poop on our hands, giardia in place of food in our stomachs, and sewer lines backing up into our bedrooms. That and where are we going to put all the dead bodies. Don’t cross the red line.
It’s been my experience that people who talk like Donald are living out a fantasy movie in their own mind. With them in the hero’s role. This becomes a near certainty when you see them citing a movie as an example of anything. Not even a good movie at that, a “B” movie based on a silly premise. Our friend Donald better not live in a city. If he does then he’s living a much better life, even with Leftist politics all around him, than he ever could hope for during a Civil War. I live in the country. I… Read more »
