Another existential crisis rips the Great Republic! Entire areas of America are not within easy commuting distance of brick-and-ivy universities, condemning millions of apparently immobile rural people to a life free of the mental indoctrination and intellectual intimidation found on modern campuses. And all America’s country folk have to say is: THANKS!

What did Matt Damon say in “Good Will Hunting’? “You can get a Harvard education with a Library card and $2.40 in late fees’>
WKRP in Cincinnati is still one of my favorite sitcoms, right up there with Frasier, MASH, and a very few more. And, if you’re interested, Shout! Factory has the complete show on dvd with most of the original rock ‘n roll music restored, and the Black Friday sale price is $47.98.
WKRP in Cincinnati aired 1978-1982 was a staple sitcom. My undergrad BS was @ Univ of Cincinnati (1976-1981) Aerospace-engineers had to work 3 alternating quarters for gov/industry. Bad report cards meant either do-overs or no degrees.
BS Chemical engineering degree in University of Cincinnati. 1974-1978 here. Had to have a least four quarter co-op at various chemical plants. Probably passed each other at least once and never met. Small world. Neil Armstrong taught aerospace engineering there from 1971-1979. Not sure, but he may have taught masters level only. Did you have Armstrong as teacher ever? If you did, you beat my Neil Armstrong story. I “met” him there my last year. Long, not very interesting story. By the way, only had one course with less tan an A. Had B in Physical Chemistry. A fifty out… Read more »
LOL … I started off as Chem-E! Changed to Aero 2nd year. My co-ops were done at Wright-Patterson AFB in propulsion. Good gig, as I was sent to Myrtle Beach AFB one quarter to work on the seriously bad @ss A-10’s (I still have a 30mm target round w/depleted Uranium tip). I had Armstrong for several classes, but his orbital mechanics class was really dry & tough. Solution: we’d just ask questions about moon-walk, then he’d ‘forget all about’ the lecture and just ramble for an hour (or more) about the moon – TOTALLY cool & fun & one hell… Read more »
Ok, now I am jealous. Would have loved to hear him ramble about the moon. Lucky you. Met him, but he seemed to be on the way to something he did not want to be late to, so I introduced myself (after making sure it was him….hey, I was a bit gobsmacked as I did not know he taught there) complimented him on his skills and courage, and wished him a nice day and sent him on his way. He said “yes” to my asking if it was him, and “Thank you” to my wishing him well and letting him… Read more »
