Donald Trump’s Address to the nation on Tuesday was by all accounts a tremendous hit. But one hotly-debated issue remains: could the Republican optics have gotten any better… or could the Democrats optics have gotten any worse?

“I blub a lot.” – Winston Churchill 1940
Scott Ott’s emotion is shared by all of us. It reminds me of the wonder I saw in Bill’s face when he was talking about Trump’s “Fight! Fight! Fight!” moment. I know nothing of the members of Right Angle other than they are patriots and that I would not hesitate to join them in a foxhole.
”Impactful” isn’t a real word. What’s wrong with effective?
Give up. I have. The butchery of the language continues unabated.
It’s the same with using “impacting” instead of “affecting”, or “impacted” instead of “affected” — the latter of which just reminds me of painful dental problems.
I confess that I always get a giggle out of this sort of thing … Because if you’re going to try to correct someone’s grammar you’d best be right yourself. “Impactful” is a word, it’s usage is just non-standard. My dictionary says – Usage: non-standard Adjective: impactful 1. Having a large or significant impact “Are you delivering consistent and impactful brand marketing messages?” [WordWeb.info] (Wordweb is a handy little dictionary and thesaurus that lives in your system tray and consumes nearly no resources. It’s free and I’ve used it for a very long time. I highly recommend it.) If Wordweb… Read more »
“… people like Greta Thunberg. The Swedish Scolding Troll who lives under a windmill and eats poor people.” 😂 Too funny😄
Irregardless is a double negative. 😉
That too, two things can be true simultaneously. One thing is not always mutually exclusive of another. “Irregardless” is technically a ‘real’ word but it is also non-standard usage. It is best avoided in formal writing. This is why I try to remember not to use it. This is not formal writing, the is informal and in the realm of informal conversation it is rude and condescending to scold other people for their choice of words. If the meaning can be grasped then scolding is not considered good etiquette. Because here’s the thing about all this … I don’t care… Read more »
Don’t even get me started on all of the Full Metal Jacket fans who improperly pluralize a reach around
Tuned in really late to this one, but do remember Rep Greene waving his cane around, and VP J.D. Vance signing security by waving his thumb in a “he’s outta here” signal. A sure sign Vance was the correct pick for VP, and will fill the void after President Trump leaves office. The other thing I was impressed by is how the WHOLE democrat side of Congress sat thru what I saw of the address, and assume was what they did before I came in, like a bunch of speed bumps, which is what that party has made of itself… Read more »
President Trump just needs to come out in favor of breathing. The Dems and the nightly talking hairdos will all shriek about the evils of breathing and how “you know who else breathed? HITLER!!!”
By morning we will have a permanent Republican majority, although the Dems will still carry Illinois.
Unless Trump proposes legislation against people using stakes or whatever you need to kill zombies.
I was going to say food, but you beat me to it and breathing is quicker.
Excellent commentary, guys! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate hearing your views on the speech, and you didn’t disappoint. I’m not a DJT worshipper, nor do I think he’s the second coming, but he’s attempting to set the USA on a course it should never have left circa 1776.
Donald Trump is the first POTUS in my living memory since Ronald Reagan that is on OUR side. Neither Ronnie nor Donnie were/are perfect human beings. I don’t expect that, would not demand it nor fool myself about a fallible human being and I’m certainly never going to put anyone on that pedestal. When I say “our side” I mean the side of the American People, as he sees our needs. He’s a lousy Conservative but even so he’s light years ahead of the choices from the other side. Notice that Trump has placed some former Democrats in key positions?… Read more »
At 69, I don’t know how many more elections I’ll be around for, but I’m counting on Elon for me to see people on Mars before I die.
In color this time.😁
The MAGA Republican party has replaced the old GOPe ‘reach across the aisle’, country club golf party. Now it’s obvious the Bushes McCain’s Romneys were against us all along.
Yes and I’ve known that for decades. I stopped calling myself a Republican back in the 90’s sometime. I didn’t coin the term “RINO” but when it became popular I sure as hell knew what it meant. I still voted for the Bushes et. al. because the were the lesser evil but not by a lot. We’re well shed of the Bushes, McCains and Romneys, they weren’t actually Conservatives anymore than Donald Trump is. The difference is that Trump is actually willing to embrace some of the more sensible, prosperity creating Conservative principles and those other guys were just racing… Read more »
Demonic children are all that sit on the Left side of that aisle.
In retrospect, it is surprising that none of the Democrats’ heads were involuntarily spinning on their overfed necks.
Trump IS guilty of aiding a rapist, putin & being a hypocrite by forcing Panama to honor the treaty but Trump is ok with being a hypocrite & ignore Americas OBLIGATION, Budapest Memorandum, to defend Ukraine against a tyrannical Russian dictator.
Matthew 5:37:
“All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”
I’d like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that this nonsense is coming from a “legal entity” that believes … The United States of America is a wholly owned corporation of Great Britain (or Israel, depending on who you ask and how antisemitic they are). No crater on the moon is deeper than 60 feet because that’s where the moon’s surface material ends and the spaceship hull begins. The Earth is flat. The entire legitimate government and legal system of the U.S. have been surreptitiously replaced by a sham government that no one is required to “cooperate” with. This… Read more »
I read that comment and thought, really, BW.com has an infiltrator paid for by USAID or ActBlue 🤣🤣. Thanks for the detail about what or who it really is. I’ve come across some of what you’ve listed and figured it was a CIA run psyop.
On the plus side, he or it is paying for a membership, but fooling none of us!
Yeah, no, definitely not anything as sophisticated as a CIA psyop, USAID or ActBlue. I’ve had, much to my dismay, considerable experience with these sorts of people in my life. In the process I’ve learned a lot about them. Komrade Lehoux is just a run-of-the-mill delusional “far right” wingnut. While doctrines and policies differ this sort of thing is parasitical to the Conservative Right and belongs in the same file folder as Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, Aryan Nation, Christian Identity, the Ku Klux Klan (oddly enough started by Southern Democrats but now morphed into being labelled “far right”), etc. (When I… Read more »
The only legitimate way to have an American fight and die for Ukraine is for them to become American.

To me, the Democrats looked so petty and boorish. I swear, if Trump or the Republicans wanted to make them look ridiculous and out of touch, they could not have staged it better.
Wrong side of 80/20 issues. I thought they say they wanted democracy. Proves they don’t.
Umm … I’m pretty sure they did stage this to look exactly the way it came across. And yes, they did a great job of playing the Left in the process.
The paddles and refusing to applaud the great stories made them look mean and/or ridiculous. The stories could easily be part of the plan, knowing their TDS. But the paddles? At least specifically? Yes, we all know Dems are out of touch, mean and childish, but specifically the paddles? Genius move if so. And the person setting it up is not paid enough. And should get a medal….quietly, so they can do it again without being suspected. And yes Trump played them. That’s the easy part given the TDS. He even brought that up early. But again, the paddles? Who… Read more »
The paddle puppies were just a bonus, an unforced error unlooked for. The rest of it was absolutely by design to make the Democrat Left look absurd. That they contributed to their own absurdity voluntarily is just icing on an otherwise delicious cake. You can only plan for just so much. Trump said early in his speech that there was nothing he could say that would get those people to clap for him. He knew what he was doing but that doesn’t make him some sort of a three dimensional chess master. It just means the Democrats are predictable and… Read more »
As an aside, the reason the young, Secret Service appointee is small has to do with his treatments for brain cancer. As I recall, after doing the math, I think he’s 13 years old. But D.J. most likely had radiation therapy stunting his growth. Humans are “meaning making machines”. When Trump said he felt like he was saved from potential death by God in order to save America – something that others may think is pretentious and a reflection of an over-inflated ego – he came across as almost humbled by the “realization”. If a candidate wants to use that… Read more »
Right after Jason got word of his acceptance to West Point, and DJ comes over and pats him on the back – a real brothers in arms moment, and it was priceless! It was a great show. My only regret was that I hadn’t thought to make some popcorn before I sat down to watch it. And one more thing. At first, when the cameras swept over the Dems and I saw the paddles they were holding, the backs where there wasn’t any writing, I thought, “What are those things? They look like giant, all-day-sucker, lollipops.” I will henceforth forever… Read more »
Lollipop guild. That makes them munchkins. Ridiculous little people.
Boy, does that fit!
Well done, ma’am. Well done!
Patted him on the back then they high-fived! That was an amazing, unscripted moment.
