Never apologize. The people you trigger won’t forgive you. PB&J is God’s food for children. And harried mothers.
I wouldn’t be alive today if it weren’t for peanut butter.
Later, John.
There is an old Married With Children episode where Peg won a tv contest where a Jack LaLaine character came to the Bundy’s home for a week to whip Peg into shape. By the end of the week she had him sting on the couch with her eating bon bons and smoking cigarettes. By the end of the show he died on the couch. Al was explaining to the kids why they’ll survive longer because they eat crap – just like those cockroaches over there. Which one they asked? Any of them he replied. I think this applies here I… Read more »
The earliest references to peanut butter? Aztec and Inca civilizations! So it’s been around, a long time. That said … PBJ is a gateway drug!! By 1960, I was hooked … as it tasted like – MORE! PBJ led me to add banana … but was was enough? No, I was then drawn into the seedy depths of addiction when I became dependent on peanut butter, banana and … pickle (sliced dill spears) on toast. Just talking about it has me Jones’n for some.
I like peanuts, but not peanut butter.
I like other nuts–but when I tried almond butter, I did not like that. This makes me think that what they do to the legume or nut to make it butter and add to it is what I don’t like.
I have a lot of disagreement with this one….not with peanut allergies per se but with allergies in general. I am 81 and my mother did not believe in food allergies. I was fine until I went to college.. At home I ate what we now consider “organic” food but, at college, I ate institution food. I started slowly breaking out. But, my mother did not believe in food allergies. So allergies was never pursued. I just suffered from the breaking out. That continued for many years with scabby breakouts which no one knew what it was. I found out… Read more »
don’t jump to get a drivers license since that violates the 1st, 4th, 5th and 8th Amendment.
That makes no sense; please explain.
Old Donne rarely makes sense. Often before and pasted comments that have been refuted by ACTS(TM) very well
He is a “sovereign citizen” type.
I normally just down vote him and then ignore him.
I recommend doing the same
I think he likes the attention or likes to stir things uo.
I enjoyed PB as a kid, but absolutely detested PB&J. And Marshmallow Fluff was even worse.
Fortunately my sister introduced me to PB on apples. A McIntosh apple with PB was my snack of choice all through school. That and Drake’s cake (Yodels/Devil Dogs/ Yankee Doodles).
Weighed less than 160 when I graduated HS. Didn’t start to gain weight until I discovered beer. Shocking right?
For a long time my go to was grape jelly on a pb&j. Now it’s apple jelly.
Mind blown.
As a physician who has written papers on this topic, you should know it is way more complicated than you know. I’ll try to simplify, which makes it too easy to disagree factually, but here goes. A large part of our immune systems are the different circulating immunoglobulins. IgE has existed since the beginning of man, operating all but the past century busily fighting worms that were invading our bodies. Worms (tapeworms, hookworms, etc.) are part of the reason our lifespans were shorter and our health might be chronically spent feeling ill. As we did things to rid ourselves of… Read more »
Thanks for the medical insights, Keith. Always enjoyed Carlin’s bit about his immune system being so good because as a kid they swam in the Hudson River, with all the filth. I spent several summers in the Hudson learning to sail small boats from 10-12 years old. I was almost never sick. My older brother was one of those diagnosed with asthma. My mom’s idea of treating it was to not allow him to play sports. My dad had other thoughts. Turns out after his few years in the Hudson, his symptoms largely went away. Cause and effect? Who knows.… Read more »
I would disagree about the worms…they can cause allergies, among a host of other problems. Most American medical people never even consider worms. I know what they can do….I have had them….for a long time because, despite my gut instinct, the idiot doctor who first tested me did it via blood vice fecal, which is how it is done. I suffered for years with increasing problems until I started treating myself with ivermectin and other worming meds which I was able to get. When you have worms coming out of you, please don’t tell me that they serve a positive… Read more »
We can both have elements of truth in this argument. You could have low IgE. People are treated for low IgG all the time, so why not another immunoglobulin? There is no doubt that the purpose of IgE is to fight worms and worms are rare in people today. There is also no doubt that inappropriate IgE mediates allergy. And most of my comment addressed us being better off without worms, it’s just that crazy stuff can happen. I’m sad that you’ve suffered so much.
PB + blueberry or raspberry preserves + homemade wheat bread + glass of ice-cold milk
