A great evil is loose upon the land! The Eye of Microsoft, which has long cast its fiery gaze on all of your data, introduces a new feature called ‘Recall,’ which will take a screen capture of everything you do every few seconds. “This way you will never forget anything!” claims Microsoft… and, of course, neither will they.

When the Antichrist takes over, he will not need to create the technology & infrastructure necessary to effect his total control. His tools are being emplaced now.

I get email from various “government agencies” telling me if I send x amount to coded accounts they’ll not expose my “perversion.” Meh!! Expose me, expose your own scam. I guess if I was between 12 and 72 might worry about being exposed, but at my age any exposure is welcome.

BTW, Linux won’t save you either. The CISA bulletin for this week had five* major Linux Kernel vulnerabilities/exploits and that’s pretty common. Generally by the time those sorts of things in Linux make the CISA bulletin they’ve been resolved. That won’t do you a bit of good if you get attacked before the problem is discovered, fixed and you patch your Linux OS. If you use Linux and you don’t check for patches daily you’re not using it wisely. Even if you do that you are still vulnerable until a patch is published. There is no such thing as a… Read more »

Why would I ever want it. If it can keep track of where I’ve been, so can I … Of course, there is a difference between letting us know that they are monitoring, and doing it covertly…

What is with this disturbing trend of successful companies deciding that their new mission is to go out of the way to p*ss off their loyal customers?

One day I log on and half my “sponsored content” options are either heavily leaning towards women with large breasts or “singles (near my age) in my area”. Unlike what most people might expect, this was not appreciated. The missus told me I must have clicked on something to prompt this display. At my stage of career, marriage, life-in-general, all those “contents” represent is loss of everything that I’ve worked all of my life to achieve. If a beautiful woman flirts with me it elicits a ‘fight or flight’ reflex. So why does the great sponsor in the sky think… Read more »

I agree with everything you said. We differ in that I don’t have a missus and I don’t want one. As it turns out they’re good for me but I’m not good for them. I don’t get those “sponsored content” ads but then I basically don’t see ads so I wouldn’t know if they’re being sent or not. They sure as hell aren’t welcome on any screen I own and I do major contortions to avoid them. The good news is that those eggheaded microdicks at Microsoft thought this Recall/Copilot + thing was such a great idea that they made… Read more »

Microsoft “Recall” and “Copilot +” have been a topic in security and privacy realms since they were announced. They’re a very bad idea for security because if your information is accessed by ANY other entity you are screwed. It’s not just the ramifications for court purposes. Identity stealing malware is very, very common and these systems put everything in one place to make it super tempting for thieves. This is a privacy and security nightmare. Now, before you Apple fanboys out there wax all smug about this, you’re not out of the woods either. Apple has been known to secretly… Read more »

Microsoft tends to bury any options to disable or remove this sort of thing in the legacy control panel if they give you a choice. Search for turn windows features on or off. If it can be turned off that’s where to look first. Good luck, if there’s a way to get rid of Edge I haven’t found it yet.

Try this, it worked last time I tried it, it might not work anymore. If it does work, Microsoft may install Edge again on a future update cycle and will certainly install it on a Feature Update. Be sure you have another browser installed because if you only have Edge when it’s gone you can’t access the internet to download a new browser installation file. Open a new browser window in Microsoft Edge and paste the following into the address bar to find the Edge version number: edge://settings/help. Cut and paste the following address: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\{ YOUR Version.Number}\Installer in… Read more »

Well it was worth a shot. Looks like M$ “fixed” it. But thank you anyway. I ran Arch Linux for too many years until I didn’t really have time for it anymore. I’ve still got to unlearn the right way of doing things so using Command Prompt and Powershell doesn’t feel like driving a funky rental car. Or maybe I’d be better off trying to make a bootable thumb drive again to try a lower maintenance distro like Debian. It really would be nice to truly have root again.

I really don’t give a damn if those mutherefu*ckers know what’s on my mind. In fact I’m glad that they do.

It’s not so much a matter of them knowing what’s on your mind as the bad guys being able to retcon whatever they want to do to you after the fact.

If that was the full extent of this I’d agree with you. It’s not. This stuff has terrible potential for theft of things like banking information. You might not care if they know what’s on your mind but I’m betting you’ll care a lot if you log onto your bank account and find out you’re now penniless.

Bill–that movie you referenced is not “The Office,” but “Office Space.” In that, they took (I believe) a FAX machine out in to a field and pounded it with baseball bats.

Still a great scene from an interesting movie that had a plot similar to a subplot in Superman III.
