The new Michael Jackson biopic raises some interesting — and disturbing —questions about the nature and the price of genius… none of which are in the film.

He was talented no doubt but I never really got into his music, I just never saw the appeal
I don’t like Michael Jackson or his music. Never listened to that drek. Wasn’t surprised at the allegations nor that he ended badly. That said, no child should ever be abused. There’s a fine line between abuse and discipline and a conscientious, loving Dad knows where that line is. Jackson’s father clearly did not. The monster is the exception not the rule. Loving discipline is not abuse though sometimes it can be harsh when merited. My two boys each got “the belt”. It took the youngest a single instance to understand “Dad means business and consequences will ensue” and it… Read more »
I prefer to filter the music of Michael Jackson through Weird Al Yankovic!
Eat It, Fat…
Apparently what you think you know about Michael Jackson is not true.

Apparently you think that everything posted to the internet you agree with must be true. Michael Jackson’s “indiscretions” are well verified and documented.
Still, I was curious so I clicked on your link just to give you the benefit of the doubt. It leads to a substack behind a paywall that wants to harvest email addresses to get a “free” one-off look at what you linked to.
So thanks but no thanks and I won’t make the mistake of clicking on any links you post, nor of giving you the benefit of the doubt, again. Fool me once etc.
I like the music of the Jackson 5 but have never been fond of the music of their solo careers–like Michael’s and Janet’s. I do not hate their music (solo music) but will not buy it or voluntarily listen to it.
If I had the choice of enjoying the genius of Robin Williams, the Jackson 5, etc., caused by evil or eliminate the evil, I would eliminate the evil. As a side note, there are talented people that had a decent to nice childhood–like “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Please fix your echo!! Hard to understand you guys.
Also, one person suffering for the sins of everyone else. Hmmm, where have I heard that story before? 8~)
In 1979, Sweden became the first country in the world to explicitly ban all forms of corporal punishment of children. This legislation has been credited with significantly reducing child maltreatment deaths. I’m female so I don’t know if there is a breaking point in a man beating a child where he cannot stop until the child is dead. Not all children “people” are alike, and a sensitive child will be affected more by punishment than an insensitive child in the same family. If a child is an overachiever, he will succeed without punishment, and be able to avoid psychological problems.… Read more »
Banning corporal punishment is unwise and unBiblical. It’s like banning guns because criminals use them for evil as well as responsible, thoughtful, law abiding peaceful people use them for good. Rather than punish abusers and criminals just outlaw the whole works and toss the baby out with the bath water. That Sweden did so is no surprise and also no recommendation. No, there sure as HELL is not a “breaking point in a man beating a child where he cannot stop until the child is dead”. That’s ABSURD. If it were true then the human race would never have survived.… Read more »
I think a “Genius/Asshole Matrix” could be added to the mix.
Similar to the The Crazy Hot Matrix … shucks … Witty Fool beat me to the punch
Yup, when I was a supervisor at Hampton Court Palace I’d often be called to the gates to deal with situations where folk didn’t have their passes trying to get through the public gates because they could get through security. Seven times out of ten it was either a Gentleman of the Choir of the Chapel Royal, or someone from the Royall School of Needlework, both sort “semi-detached” entities within the building but not the organisation. Both groups could be, shall we say, challenging. When it was sorted our guys would often moan about them, I would sympathise, of course,… Read more »
IMHO Michael Jackson’s talent level never went down. The Broadway show that he was working on at the time of his death would have been the mark every artist shot for when striving for greatness. It is one of the greatest losses for the arts in my lifetime. I sound like a crazy fan-boy and I’m really not. I am just someone who was a serious musician for a couple of decades and have put thought into what transcendent musicianship/performance has been through history. This sounds dumb, but I think this would-have-been musical could have approached the first performance of… Read more »
