I didn’t know much about her. What drew me to the clip was the astonishing quality of the restoration, which is simply magnificent and maybe the best I have ever seen.

Out of all of the Silent Era glamour queens, she is, to me, the only one who looks absolutely modern in every way. And there is no question she comes off that way.

She was radiant. It’s amazing that that film was made much closer to the Civil War than we are to 1929. The radical changes in culture–clothing, hairstyles, lifestyles–that took place in the wake of World War I make most of the change we have seen in our lifetimes look trivial.
I dunno, the dress and hair style look very 1920’s flapper to me, not really modern. The face though could pass for modern.
