Why would someone possibly defend the use of a psychological tactic that causes such internal pain and discomfort? Because SHAME IS LOVE — that’s why.

I think it’s funny, the outcry over RFK shaming people. I think it’s only because the idea is coming from a Conservative source. The Left tried using shame on anyone they didn’t like for the entire Obama and Biden administrations. Have we so soon forgotten “cancel culture”? That was absolutely shaming for not confirming to the Left’s ideology!!
The fact that we on the Right have co-opted it for our purposes just galls them. That’s why they’re upset. When it suits the Left’s agenda, it’s perfectly alright.
RFKs whole agenda started out as a left-wing agenda in the 60’s, and the right correctly attacked it as unscientific. Which it often still is.
It chaps my ass a little bit when three skinny guys jump on weight as an example/analogy for anything. Y’all ought to pick something else because that is a social/medical/physiological minefield best not trod upon. Before I say anything else, I’m not fat. I’m not skinny either. My doc says if I maintain my current weight I’ll be just fine. I could lose a few pounds but it would be more cosmetic than medically beneficial. Frankly I don’t give a shit about appearances so if anyone tries to shame me for anything I just laugh at them. Different people have… Read more »
I may have to sue Scott myself. Obesity is a pair of contagious diseases that mess up the GLP hormones and creates cancerous fat cells. Its not a choice any more than cancer is a choice. Without Ozempic no diet or exercise works. With Ozempic both work but become irrelevant. Self control is a hormonal illusion. We are 2 years or less away from a complete medical cure that will put a million gym’s out of business. Its already hitting some food and soda companies hard. They are not selling junk food they are selling the only thing affected people… Read more »
Yeah, I’ll believe all that when I see it and I sure as hell am not holding my breath until I do.
I am relatively fat, and it is entirely my choice. (I think I have figured out how not to get any heavier, but I don’t go to great lengths to get skinnier.) But I think there is a huge middle (npi!) between “fat acceptance” and insulting fat people (both are wrong). Furthermore, these are hardly “either-or” situations, or applicable equally to everyone, and the popular beliefs are often not supported by real science. If there are few old fat men, that is because old age suppresses the appetite (see Samuel) and causes weight loss in other ways. If the issue… Read more »
As someone whose weight has been a public concern since the age of 10, when I was put on my first diet, trust me when I say that shame has been at work in my life for over 50 years. Recently, an endocrinologist and a bariatric specialist admitted to me that modern medicine does not have the answer for permanent weight loss. Yo-yoing is dangerous, and I have done it three times. I was extremely active, without the funds to overeat, and baffled experts as to how I kept on the weight. Have tried to get endocrinologists to solve the… Read more »
Did you used to work in radio in a certain CA coastal town? We may have met…
I have had many types of jobs, but never radio.
When anything that smells of “injustice” happens in these United States, hoards of hooligans instantly appear to protest with coordinated signs and chants. They have licenses from out of state. This is their job. We found out early on money was funneled through a federal program and who went where was tied to powers that be on the left that included Obama. Shame? No. Soros makes his money betting against Western Countries capital, then, when his sponsored sh#t hits the fan and the money is devalued, he wins. He is doing his best to accomplish that here and Biden gives… Read more »
My concern is who decides what Good Shame is?
In my case I’d say that would be my parents, grandparents and the rest of my family first and foremost. This was part of the process of turning me into a civilized human being not just a human shaped animal. If this was still the universal application there wouldn’t be a need for your question. I know if I’ve done something shameful and I don’t need to wonder about who decides anything at all.
“…process of turning me into a civilized human being not just a human shaped animal.”
But I LIKE being a human shaped animal!
“Ook, ook, Southpaw see girl, chase girl, grab girl! Wake up somewhat later and question life choices! Ook,ook! “
Lol, you’re confusing being a human shaped animal with being a foolish human being. Not the same thing. As is made clear by the example you posit. You make the mistake common to people who have lived their entire lives around civilized human beings and have little or no experience with human shaped animals. Here’s a human shaped animal example — “You have something I want. I’ll just come in your house in the middle of the night, kill you and take it. Oh, wait, you’re female too? OK, well I want sex also so I’ll rape you before and… Read more »
Otherwise known as someone who has destroyed his divine image. Your description seems to describe a lot of people in Gaza. Also how war was conducted, even in the West, until really recently, and still is in many places.
How about disgrace? The mere possibility of that kept me on the straight and narrow.
We should have more of it.
Jah, concur. It’s the thought of shame and disgrace that got my sorry ass out of bed to go to work at a job I hated when I first got married and had to be responsible for someone besides myself. Etc.
A person’s diet is nobody’s business but the eater’s. Everybody is different. I would not recommend my diet to anyone, but it makes me one of the healthiest 75 year olds you will ever meet. Allow me to explain: I’m 75 years old. 5’10” and 180 pounds. Not my high school weight, but not obese, either. I have not been sick (not even a cold since 1973). My last blood pressure was 112/70. My last blood test numbers were, according to my doctor, text book perfect. I am fit enough to shovel the (Michigan) snow, for all the houses on my block, by hand. I mow the lawn… Read more »
Have I mentioned that i hate you? 😁
🙂
On the other hand, the harm caused by promiscuity is to society, and the individual case is not really relevant to that fact.
