Drones Take Down PUBLIC ENEMY #1

It is, by far, the deadliest animal on the planet and has likely killed more people than all human wars combined — the mosquito. Now, after millions of years of evolution, the tide may be turning in a particularly satisfying way as human-made drones shoot down mosquitos one at a time.

If you really wanted to take out a quadcopter drone, just tape about 3-6 feet of fishing line with a long fuzzy piece of yarn or a piece of cheesecloth tied to it to a drone of your own and have it fly over the other drone. You only need to cut the effective upward thrust until the other drone can’t support it’s weight. If the yarn drags in the thrust, it cuts the thrust of the remaining engines if the drone even manages to keep it’s balance. There’s a device that was designed for fishermen. It’s a dragonfly facsimile, attached to a wire, that clips on your hat. As you move, it appears to be flying around and, because mosquitoes are afraid of it, it repels them. Worth a try?

But what about dragonflies? The adults and larvae eat mosquitoes exclusively. Are you willing to sacrifice them? The purpose of mosquitoes is to keep the human population in check. Alright, we can get rid of dragonflies.
