It’s been a catastrophe for decades: an ocean of red tape consuming three cities worth of man-hours to comply with. Chuck it into the ocean and replace it with the elegant, morally sound, eminently-fair ‘100 / 10 / 0’ plan. Steve Green has the details.

I always have to say that I don’t care how the government takes our money. If we don’t cut the spending, however they take our money, it will be too much.
Another unfairness of a “fair” tax is that senior citizens, after paying income taxes all their lives and perhaps saving in tax-free investments, would be told they have to pay 23% more for everything they buy, even though they no longer have the same (or any) income.
The only saving grace of the Income Tax is that it admits it takes money from people who at least have some.
On these alternative tax schemes like the Fair Tax or VAT, I am always waiting to see all of the details to really understand just what their impact would be. They really need to provide a listing of all of the various types of purchases to which their tax would (or would not) apply. Store purchases = pretty straightforward, unless perhaps you are not a US citizen? Going backward through the wholesaler and factory would probably also follow the usual VAT processing? Buy a car? $10,000 car then costs $12,300 out the door, but if it is a used car,… Read more »
wages are NOT taxable because that is asking permission to live.
I have READ the IRS manual and numerous Supreme Court decisions and income is defined as “money made on stocks, bonds, interest and capital gains.” PERIOD. A flat sales tax with no deductions is based upon what you buy not on what you make. Rich people buy expensive so they will pay more is taxes.
Wow, you’re at it again. It is my privilege to whip out my pin and burst your bubble once again. Thanks for the entertainment value your nonsense provides. The 16th Amendment SAYS … The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration. The dictionary definition of “income” is … Noun: income 1. The financial gain (earned or unearned) accruing over a given period of time Wages are financial gain, unless you live in some alternate universe. Which would not… Read more »
Please stop with the ad hominem attacks. Make your point, but no one likes a bully. And you’re being a bully now.
No. I have to deny your request and if you think I’m being a bully you’re mistaken. I’m glad you posted your reply to me because it gives me the opportunity to explain why that is so. Firstly: “Ad hominem” is a type of logical fallacy. It means to irrelevantly attack a person rather than their argument or position. The key there is “irrelevantly”. Not all instances of ridicule by contemptuous attack are “ad hominem”. For instance — It’s not an ad hominem to call a child molester a dangerous pervert. Pointing out that someone who engages in perversions with… Read more »

Guess I would be one of those demanding an exception–or at least that Roth IRA distributions be declared non-taxable. After all, the tax has already been pre-paid. Perhaps the same could be said for Social Security benefits. Oh yeah, no tax due for those over age 65? 70? 80?
The FAIR Tax would simply build out the Black Market and other non-traceable transactions!
This is true. There will always be people who find a way to cheat. It’s incentivizing cheating where the Fair Tax concept falls down.
Wow!! Bill looks like he got an eclipse burn!!
Does Biden, and his family, pay their FAIR share…?
For someone who thinks graft and corruption is “getting his fair share” it’s unlikely that “paying his fair share” ever enters his thought process.
I’ve always wondered who physically pays for SharterJoe’s ice cream cones when he’s doing his ice cream shop visits. I sincerely doubt that Joe hasn’t even thought about that in his 3+ year reign of error.
“Washington”, the Federal government, does not begin to give the American people value equal to 22% of national income. No change to the revenue collection system can change that fact.
The idea of a “prebate” is insane. We currently have voter fraud. Can you imagine all the dead people, pets, etc. that would apply for a “prebate”?
