My friend Mike Rowe gave me a call last week and asked me if I wanted to come in to his studio and try to convince people why Socialism Is Not A Good Idea. So I gave it my best shot and an hour and twenty-five minutes later here’s everything I could muster on the subject.

“You can’t raise the bottom, you can only lower the top.” … is arguably the truest and most profound succinct observation in this video. That’s it in a nutshell. If you’re talking about “being fair” but you’re only going to use that as an excuse to suck political power from the lowest percentile then there’s not a damn thing that’s fair about it. To anyone. Including those at the bottom end. Because you’re using resources that should go to actually help the deserving needy on people who deserve nothing and whose only value to you is a purchased vote. Then even… Read more »

I saw a comment on X a few days ago that I thought was brilliant. It said that,

In Socialism, the productive are cast as the villians.

The example with automobile laws, licensing, etc. is fallacious. Those rules ONLY apply when operating your vehicle in the public highway system. The highway system is a gigantic machine containing a vast number of autonomous, semi-independent, parts. If, and only if, you choose to be a cog in that gigantic machine, do those rules apply to you, and they apply only when you are so engaging. Otherwise, you do not need a license or to follow any rules if you are not a part of the machine.

Exactly so. But to add a little context so that people who never, ever drive anywhere except in that machine — At one point in my life I worked on a huge corporate farm in the capacity of assistant manager..My Dad was the manager and if you work for your Dad it goes one of two ways. Either you’re “the boss’s kid” and you can do no wrong OR you are held up as an example of what is expected of everyone else and work your ass off. My situation was the latter. Not only was my Dad a slave… Read more »

“What can we do?” Mike asks. The reason Trump got re-elected is because we got Biden and it snapped just enough people awake. There are many more takers than makers in our country. But having Mamdani and Newsome running NYC and California, respectively, play out their grand socialist schemes should achieve the same thing. And we have to hope that just enough people will go “Nope.”

Um … gonna have to disagree with you again, Doc. If the mass of takers outweighed the mass of makers the only possible result would be immediate social and economic collapse. The prima facie evidence just does not support your claim. We have not collapsed, yet, nor are we anywhere close to the brink. Yet. If you think we are, I’ll be happy to cite more facts to the contrary. I’ve been to places that are in collapse and this isn’t even close. If by “takers” we use the number of people on government assistance of any sort that number… Read more »

We forget that the reason the United States has the most expensive care in the world is because of federal government overreach. The government was concerned about wage inflation, businesses wanting the best and the brightest coming home from the Great War, WW II. So, they capped wages businesses could offer. Not to be outdone, businesses began to offer “benefits packages.” Of these benefits was retirement and healthcare. Up until then, doctors couldn’t cure much of anything. Antibiotics were becoming available, but most things we take for granted today were only a pipe dream. What happened when Insurance companies were… Read more »

That’s an interesting take. Just like I ask you to put some thought into what I say, I’m going to have to put some thought into this too. Thanks.
