I absolutely get Bill’s concerns about the reaction (and his reaction to that reaction) when The Donald is finally standing at the Pearly Gates telling St Peter the gates need more gilding. If the left’s reaction here to Lady Thatcher’s death and funeral back in 2013 is anything to go by, he’ll need to keep a tight grip on his emotions. I keep thinking (because I can rarely say) just because they were against the fascists doesn’t make them democratic, just communists. What popped into my head and prompted me to write it down so I hopefully remember it better, is that like the AFC/NFC in the NFL or the AL and NL in MLB (and my local Brewers with a day off today) are the rivalries on one side that affect no one on the other. You are both correct, becase the larger WE in that equation has been largely appathetic — allowing THE[M] to gain more power during the course of the past 100+ years. This problem exceeds generations, and it is not completely attributable to the US of the most recent few generations since many individuals, like yourself, cannot claim any culpability for current circumstances. Unfortunately, WE are required to deal with it. This is OUR war, and, for the sake of our progeny, we must not shirk the responsibilties.
Robert Heinlein provided some good advice as the depth of the divide in our country may never be able to be functionally bridged!
