In the wake of another unfortunate flare-up between Elon Musk and President Trump, Scott Ott quotes The Washington Post as saying that Musk “failed” during his tenure as the director of the Department of Government Efficiency. As of this posting the National Debt Clock shows about $550 BILLION dollars saved, or nearly $5,000 in waste saved per taxpayer. That’s just under a million dollars per MINUTE. DOGE certainly could have done worse, but could they have done better… SO FAR?

GubMint nursing homes? No freakin way I am checking into that cespool. Imagine entitled workers, hating their lives & jobs, and then “taking it out” on you? GubMint could not make $ selling booze & sex (Mustang Ranch), so what would make anyone think this made sense? Answer: MONEY … no matter how illicit, illegal, imoral, or indecent. Please – more DOGE! As part of process, add TERM LIMITS to minimize the cancercerous graft & payola, as well as close the FED – that may well enable even more foul practices.
Moving to NH, I was stunned at how many things my county “owns”, including a mountain resort.
Also, the sheriff’s department did many more tasks than the MA sheriff.
Musk was just a decoy to draw fire away from the people doing the real work. That worked for six months. Quite good. Elon has a new political job. There is now real risk that the DNC will die soon as a coherent party and you don’t want even the illusion of a one party state. So Elon appears to be rallying all those on the libertarian right and center left to a new flag. The USA needs to create a loyal opposition. A party that can challenge Trump and later Vance with out betraying the country. Once you see… Read more »
The bullet point and number formatting does not work.
Where is the oft-repeated means of tackling the budget deficit by not automatically giving every department a 7-11% increase in allotment year-to-year? I seem to recall someone calling for just a freeze on current spending, which was defined by his political opponent as a “Cut” in spending for that department and therefore resulted in making him “shut up” because that is the debate strategy of the Left (according to Klavan).
Remember most of the DOGE crew were hired onto the USDS in Trump’s first term when Elon was on the other side. DOGE was there to show the corruption. Its congresses job to pass legislation to fix it. The long term fix is to move the Public Goods out of congresses hands and put it into self funded trusts, crowd funding and marketization (not privatization). This plan has been on the books from the 1980’s. The key solution for Medicare and Social Security is to make people healthier because that is where most of the costs are in welfare and… Read more »
Elon Musk is indeed a very powerful, influential and savvy man. He owns his companies or is chairman. He is, I am sure, not used to or comfortable with people, sometimes many people, telling him no. He’s great at what he does, maybe the best. He assembled a great team in DOGE. But ‘real politic’ is a real thing. It can not be ignored. There’s the 500+ in congress, there’s world leaders, there’s dangerous Obama/Biden holdovers still entrenched in Government, and I’m not kidding about the word ‘dangerous’. There’s Judges, there’s heads of state, there’s world politics in play. All… Read more »
as long as Pam Bondi is a coward and refuses to prosecute, at the very least, the people collecting Social Security that haven’t been born the corruption WILL continue AND where are the COPS to arrest these criminals, are the cops part of the criminal cartel and looking the other way for kickbacks?
Actually I read that a dozen had all gone through. Its not showing up in courts because people are pleading no contest and going straight to the penalty phase.
Excellent episode gentlemen.
Bill – take Scott’s close and put it out there as a two minute “short”.
DOGE work is continuing and codifying those “cuts” is something for congress to take up, but it will need many more actual R’s in congress, both house and senate.
Great Right Angle you guys. Before there was an Elon, there was a Thomas. Thomas Sowell. (I’ll add here, National Treasure Dr. Thomas Sowell). On Uncommon Knowledge in 2018, Peter Robinson is interviewing Dr. Sowell about the institutional interests of the Federal Government. Go to You Tube and pick up his answer at precisely 5:42 into the interview. As a young man who’s first job was with the department of labor, Dr. Sowell learned the hard way about how Government protects itself. https://youtu.be/mS5WYp5xmvI?feature=shared At the 5:42 mark. I’ve probably seen this interview a dozen times. FWIW, In 2010, I learned… Read more »
Knew about Dr. Thomas Sowell for years before Bill Whittle. However, I really should get some of his books.
Have heard many interviews, and just as so many others he has said he was a lefty until reality smacked him in the face.
I bought his audio book Basic Economics. Nothing actually basic about it, unless you’re Thomas Sowell….Scott read it too. He mentioned it a few times. All Chapters were excellent, however, his view on “International Inequities in Wealth” was one I had lived my entire life without considering, and when I read it (audible books…heard it) it changed my entire way of viewing the world. This quote did it for me. “But a more fundamental question might be, was there ever any realistic chance that the nations of the world would have had similar prospects of economic development? Innumerable factors go… Read more »
That should be required reading in High School.
Elon did what he set out to do: show the public where the waste, fraud and abuse everybody already knows runs rampant in any large organization. Now it’s up to the American propel to continue supporting the fix, or to take it back and make it worse. I’m 80, and every place I worked at thru my life time had workers and ride-alongs. Sometimes they are needed, but keeping ride-alongs on permanent full salary can defeat any corporation. As for the damage done to Tesla, that can be repaired in short order. Were I Elon I’d be hiring Pinkerton detectives… Read more »
