As Donald Trump continues his shake-up of all things foreign and domestic, even some conservatives are starting to get a little weak in the knees. But take heart, stalwart compatriots! Steve, Bill and Scott all agree: don’t pay attention to what Donald Trump SAYS; pay attention to what Donald Trump WANTS.

I’m not too worried about the long term for the country, but have concerns about the short term and myself. I agree that Trump needs to watch what he says and not have unforced errors. Short term, if a recession occurs because of tariffs we could lose the midterms, and things get harder to accomplish. Remember, it’s the economy stupid! Also just percentage cuts without close examination is asking for trouble. Too much or the wrong people could be worse than the bloat. I’ve heard they are looking at cutting the IRS by 20%. That’s about right, if you cut… Read more »
Patience…The only thing guvmint does in a hurry is screw things up.
It’s really helpful to read THE ART OF THE DEAL. His mind doesn’t work like most people think it does. Like Bill says, it’s not what he says, it’s what ultimately happens as a result of his actions. He is throwing a lot of rocks into the henhouse, but things are happening to the benefit of the USA. I’m not worried in the least. ‘Merica.
Guys, I’ve got to say, if this was supposed to be encouraging then it had the opposite intended effect. I’m seeing plenty of people all across the world who were huge supporters of Donald Trump all the way from 2016 completely collapse in their support of him, with nearly all the foreigners coming to view America as a traitorous enemy when just a couple of months ago they were more pro-American than the Americans and thought that Trump was going to make everything a thousand times better. There was nothing in this segment that I can take back to those… Read more »
Maybe that’s because a prosperous America is good for the world but coming clean about economic imbalances that affect your country’s prosperity in the name of fairness is a price they’re not wanting to pay.
My only problem with PDT’s methodology is that he is frequently spitballing in real time and hasn’t thought about what he is about to say. He trusts his instincts and that is generally good, but when he hasn’t had a chance to be briefed on a topic, this can go south. POTUS is the policy setter for the USA. There needs to be some care taken. But going back to the 80/20 conversation, I’d say he is spot on 80% of the time, so my gripes might be nitpicking. but as an example, there are some seriously imbalanced tariffs with… Read more »
I don’t think you’re nitpicking at all. The way I see it, Trump’s unguarded big mouth gives ammunition to our enemies that they absolutely should not have. It’s a completely unforced error. For single example among many, there’s this guy named Peter Zeihan that I used to follow for his views on Geopolitics. He’s an old-school wealthy elitist but information is where you find it, not where you WANT to find it. Zeihan makes his living by predicting things that allow for investors and pols to recognize trends and opportunities. (He used to work for Stratfor but they canned him.)… Read more »
People are susceptible to two huge influences. Fear and selective amnesia. They are easily frightened and they tend to forget good things while holding onto bad things forever. I heard a left-leaning comedian on a podcast last week (maybe Megyn Kelly?) who was taking issue with Ben Shapiro’s “Facts don’t care about your feelings” This guys point was that people are largely emotional decision makers and argued that their feelings don’t care about your facts. It’s an interesting counter point as I learned from reading Heinlein as a youngster that emotional arguments are quite resistant to logical parrying. All these… Read more »
All very insightful. Being as GMTA it’s always hard to find something to disagree with in what you say. So I read it and don’t find that, not really a surprise. It kind of gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to have people to communicate with on that level. I like that feeling and appreciate those sorts of people. I don’t think PDT is a three-dimensional chess master. I think he has a killer instinct for business. It’s been said that the United States of America is the largest corporation in the world and while there may be some validity… Read more »
When I first came across Zeihan’s research I felt like I’d been handed secret notes. The more I listened, I wondered why his ideas about each country’s population (depopulation) issues were not common knowledge and used for policy decisions. He also didn’t talk USA politics often and his facts seemed to espouse common sense solutions.
Years later I was told he was a lefty. I hadn’t listened in a bit. It’s like he did all this information gathering for us and didn’t use it for himself.
LOL, oh yeah, ol’ Pete’s a Lefty alright. It’s good to pay attention to Lefty’s though, you gotta know your enemies. One of the worst mistakes the Left has made is in demonizing and discounting everything on the Right. They’re now in a position where they have no idea what the Right is really all about and that’s going to bite them in the ass, very hard and painfully. Because now the Left has gone canine-feculence-crazy and people are discovering that the Right is nothing like we’ve been portrayed. The shell the Left built around us is not only cracking… Read more »
