After watching a generation of pink-haired, pierced and tattooed Gen-Z Social Justice warriors grow older if not up, Bill attends a local Friday Night High School football game and is amazed at how normal, sane, decent and HAPPY the kids he saw there turned out to be. A few caveats apply, but with that said, it was a very encouraging, even uplifting experience that may help restore some faith in the future.

I own and operate a trucking company and I spend a large amount of time in the rural towns of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming and I can tell you that we’re going to be just fine. The manners, consideration and just plain politeness of the kids growing up out in the country gives me so much hope for the future. Their parents are raising them right. I get a very real sense of depression and hopelessness in the big cities, but that all goes away once you’re out of city limits. Thank you, gents..

Bill, thank you for writing “all right” instead of alright! I HATE that non-word!

Gentlemen: The nose-ring comments are spot-on. Now I will subject you to one of my own pet peeves. There is a common gesture or pose that men use today that does the exact same thing: this is when men stand with their hands clasped in front of them, arms full length. This pose draws the eye down to the crotch. It also tends to rotate the shoulders forward and destroy the line of one’s coat (or just a shirt) and emphasize any pudginess. It is a TERRIBLE look. Do you ever see President Trump stand like that? Standing with one’s… Read more »

I must say that I have never looked at this. But I did a very quick search for “wedding party photos” and of the first few dozen that came up, 80+% have the guys posed like this, and you are correct. They look terrible. Jackets not fitting, gaps in the wrong places, eyes drawn to the wrong spot.
I now will include this in things I can no longer unsee.

Sherman Oaks was where my mother-in-law had a place (overlooking Ventura Blvd, near Sunset Beach and Mulholland Blvds). Nice area indeed. The HS tuition ~ $22K/yr ($2400/mo for 9 month school year). For most, that ain’t chicken feed. I loved going to my kids games, starting w/Pop-Warner (Lakewood, near LB airport), then onto HS (son/football, daughter Lead Cheer Leader). IMHO (in my humble opinion), it made a positive difference on who they are today. Now in Knoxville area (go Vols 5-1), football is a big deal, so I expect to enjoy many more games as my (3) grandkids get older.… Read more »

I lived across the street from Notre Dame on Sunnyslope for 20+ years: band practice every Wednesday, Fri night home games more often than not. It Is a GREAT little neighborhood: ran into Mr. T several times there at the Rite Aid. Not only are those kids well behaved, but if you walked, you noticed just how crowded the parking on the streets was. Well sir, I want you to know that it takes all of 20 minutes for all those cars to skeedaddle & they do it without acting stoopid. THEN Saturday morning the kids are out, patrolling the… Read more »

Race wars are a wet dream of our alleged media. They’d like nothing better than to start one, or at least see one. In real life people get along with each other. At Wally World the other say bumped carts with a black driver. We both came around a blind corner at the same time. BOTH of us were, “Oops. My bad, sorry” at the same time, both offered the other a “go ahead.” “Shutter media for 30 days and 80% of the world’s problems would disappear” seems more honest every day. High school age – “young adults” who still… Read more »

Steve – I stayed with people that lived in Monument for spring skiing in 1971. We drove out from Michigan in April. There was nothing to speak of there then. They now live in Crested Butte.

On an unrelated topic I have to wonder why, if we conservatives eschew the idea of group identities, why are we obsessed with labeling each generation? Just a thought .

Talk amongst yourselves.

I moved from a wealthy suburb in northern Atlanta to a small town in the Appalachians. I immediately joined the Rotary, because that’s what you do in small towns. We cook hamburgers and hot dogs for the concessions at the high school football games to raise money for the band. This is the only high school in the county. (There are two private schools that are high five-figures a year.) The county is populated by people who make half national average income, losing most of their potential employment to our international fair-trade treaties, and Meth is rampant. To make matters… Read more »

One of my best buddies and I regularly attend the local high school football games. And I’m not even particularly a football fan. We have a great time doing this and that makes it worth the effort. Even though I’m a PITA by asking my buddy to explain the game to me*. I sometimes wonder, being as he’s considerably younger than I am, if he’s not taking me to these games just to do a good deed for another Marine who’s old and doesn’t get out much. He’s a pretty good guy and a really good friend. You have to… Read more »

I went to the local HS game Friday night for a bit. My daughter is now a teacher at said HS and the club she sponsors had a table to generate interest. It was 90s night and there were a few outfits that I thought were a little much for 15 year olds, or a little too little, but generally a very wholesome crowd. Oh, Bill, the flowers thing was very likely a guy asking the girl to Homecoming or some such. A big deal is made for these kids on the big ask for Dances. Prom is really ludicrous.… Read more »
