Its unveiling cost the Artificial Intelligence market’s darling, nVidia, to lose SIX HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS —overnight! China’s new AI startup, Deepseek, has turned the tech world upside down with it’s high performance at an astonishingly low cost, supposedly doing an end-run around nVidia’s high-end, export-restricted GPUs. But is this performance / price point real, and even if it is, is Deepseek — like TikTok and RedNote — nothing more nor less than Chinese Communist Party spyware?

Most do not know the president Xi is very superstitious. He has astrologers, etc on the payroll. They all predicted a bad year this year 2025. They also predicted that he will be over thrown by someone born in the year of the goat: 1955,1967, 1979, 1991. Chinese political figures born in these years have been dying like flies lately.
Xi also apparently drinks excessively. He recently built a huge luxury bunker complex near Beijing but other projects in the area, including a new city named after his mother, have flooded recently. The block can’t get a break. lol.
I’ve been looking at Chinese road trip videos. my geography and human ecology degrees at work. Several people in China have figured out how to make a living making YouTube videos with dash cams, drones and other cheap toys. A VPN helps getting out to the Youtube account. Youtube is blocked in China. How much is propaganda? Not sure but they show potholes and traffic jams. One thing it tells me is that China has spent trillions of dollars on tunneling though mountains almost everywhere. The main north south highway though the Qinling mountains is 400 miles of overpass and… Read more »
Bill what’s the name of the fusion company?
I tried to post a blog post on this on the site a few days ago but the blog page is down. A lot of china watchers think this is fraud. Also when these Chinese frauds run their course and are no longer useful the Chinese government confiscates all the money the ‘researchers’ got. As has happened with their movie stars and companies like Alibaba. The only reason Tesla and Nike are still there is they can’t pull any money or people out.
I also sent an email about this including the error statement days ago. Still down.
Deepseek will not say Xi Jinping, it will not talk about Tiananmen Square, the floods, earthquakes, etc that killed thousands in recent years. While the work is not done there is indications that conservative investors were not the ones selling Nvidia shares. It was probably the left wing government and pension funds. Any good conservative knows communist countries do not really innovate and never tell the truth. The new Red State investment companies probably just made a killing at the stock market. Deepseek used a bootleg copy of ChatGPT, distillation (one AI picking the brains of an older smarter more… Read more »
Stephen Green mentions in passing that Apple’s putting AI processing on each iPhone is good for privacy. For some time the individual in the linked video below has been making the case that the opposite is true. Essentially, whereas previously, keystrokes and screen captures would need to be sent to the “mothership” for processing, what we now have is distributed local processing with direct and full access to all local data. The processed results of going through this data, which would have had to been done at a central server, can now be done on each phone, and the results… Read more »
Two things: 1 As to the company using younger less experienced developers, we have Arther C Clarke first Law: When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong. ” In other words, they don’t know what is impossible. 2. Let me make sure. This is pretty much a software improvement. It’s “open source”? If thats the case, they just shot themselves in the foot. The software is free to use and modify in that case. Get it free, modify and use and… Read more »
C.H.I.N.A. is NOT a friend to the USA – period. Think of a modern version of the Greek Trojan Horse – or – a sick & perverse version of Deep-Thought. Follow-on to TicToc (CCP) w/keystroke recording (like banking passwords) malware. Use it – lose it or if you prefer FAFO. Time to hitch-hike out of here. Where the hell is my towel? As the guide (and Tesla Roadster screen in space) says – Don’t panic. Hear the message from dolphins (double backward somersault, through a hoop, whilst whistling “The Star-Spangled Banner”)? … translated … “So Long, and Thanks for All… Read more »
BIG red flag …. CHINA! The CCP is NOT a friend of Western countries — especially our own beloved USA. Anyone who ignores the fact that this little Chinese company is controlled by the CCP is foolish to say the least. I cannot believe that this is not the lede instead of the so-called wonders of cheap AI with low power requirements. Let’s not forget that this new software will ALWAYS require an Internet connection to find the references it needs to respond to inquiries. The consequence of this is that a middle man (i.e., the CCP-controlled censor, which is… Read more »
Our brains are shrinking, objectively smaller over time. Before the printing press, most people had to remember a great deal more, the written word having to be hand-painted or chiseled. There were people who could recite the Bible or the Iliad by memory. With each technologic advance, we utilize our brains less. This is having a devastating effect on our personal ability to think. As an everyday example, today’s cashiers often can’t compute change without a calculator. Artificial intelligence has the potential to (further) jumpstart us into the age of “Idiocracy”, the prescient movie from decades ago where someone time… Read more »
