The ultimate plan with Russia is to have natural gas from the US replace Russian fuel for the Europeans, sanction them economically if they continue to be bad actors, and hope the weakness shown by their military effort in Ukraine makes them less likely to be more of a threat. Did you miss the part where Bill said that to insist on that would mean Putin’s death were he to allow it to happen? And that Putin knows that? What on earth has Putin ever done to make you think he’s suicidal?

That’s true as far as it goes. The thing is that Putin is NOT “occupying a free and independent country” … YET. He’s occupying about a quarter of that country and if we want to stop him we need to be realistic about what’s doable and what is not.
