In its never-ending battle to destroy it’s own credibility, the Washington Post claims that the LITERAL OCEANS of people being fired for their vile and reprehensible behavior following Charlie Kirk’s assassination will bring economic heartache to both sides.

I’m going to be brutally honest here. If that’s a problem for you don’t read this. I confess I barely knew who Charlie Kirk was. I was aware of him, I would see a video short now and then titled “Charlie Kirk destroys _____” or words to that effect and I’d watch it. Charlie’s target audience is a lot younger than me and he basically never said anything I didn’t already know. The same was the case with Rush Limbaugh. I approve mightily of both of them and the work they did but I didn’t pay a lot of attention… Read more »
Not knowing much about Charlie is just indicative that you were not his demographic. I share you anger and feel for his wife (who has already given two rather amazing speeches in this aftermath) and children and family. However, as I have a 25 year old daughter I will share that the value of Charlie Kirk to the election of Donald Trump cannot be understated. TPUSA was the GOTV group and the work they did with the 18-26 demographic, not just getting them registered but to vote and vote for PDJT, well the phrase Herculean task comes to mind. That… Read more »
Yeah, I’m aware I’m not in Charlie Kirk’s demographic and said so. I hope I didn’t come across as trivializing what he did (or Rush Limbaugh either for that matter) because that was not my intention at all. Those guys did monumental work for our side and I sincerely appreciate every bit of it. I just don’t spend much time with their content for the reasons I stated. Those reasons are not derogatory and I didn’t mean them to sound like they were. My nephew, 22 y/o, was a huge fan of Charlie Kirk. The news of Charlie’s murder hit… Read more »
I’m somewhat like you in that I dont know a lot about Charlie Kirk. I knew about Turning Point USA a little, but did not know he founded it. I saw about ten or so videos with him debating and enjoyed him debating, and him totally destroying some Leftys world. Their stunned, and/or sad faces was so enjoyable. And I’m with you in wanting a firing squad, and hope its broadcast and recorded so others can see it….and learn about consequences of actions. Anyone that assassinates someone who is trying to hold civil conversations is evil. That kind of evil… Read more »
Yeah, I’m thinking public/publicized executions need to be brought back in certain cases where a particularly heinous killing was done to a particularly innocent person. Political assassination fits that bill. People need to see what will happen to them if they do such things and it’s a good reminder to the rest of us too. Knowing about something intellectually and actually experiencing that thing are two totally different critters. The death of another outside our personal circles has become a far too callous thing. Charlie was a husband, a father, a son (and for all I know probably a brother… Read more »
If you had the real round, given what you have said about your shooting, which I believe, your shot would be were you go where you meant it, and be more merciful than the guy, in my opinion, deserves.
I try to avoid cruelty and always dispatch vermin as cleanly as I’m able. And no, I don’t miss. I’m not bragging because I don’t take a shot unless I know I can make it do what I want to. If you’re patient a clean shot will always present itself 😉
Of course a target tied to a pole in front of a sturdy wall isn’t much of a challenge either. So there’s that too.
I’ll bet that Matt is upset at his poor “score”. 8>)
I am about the most “let’s have civil dialogue” (not in those exact words, of course) as they come. Trying to engage in one has been one of the most disappointing things in my life. One or two sentences in, I’ll hear some “facts” presented that are so off the wall that I have to pause and collect myself so the conversation gets shut down from my reaction. Or the talk sinks into feelings and name calling for anyone who isn’t in the liberal bubble. I’ve been pretty insulated myself, my point of view having been honed dating back to… Read more »
Contrary to Bill’s assertion that “social media reduces shame,” I suspect it’s not social media that has done so. I suspect that the ever-increasing lack of morality in our society is the fundamental culprit for reduced shame. Social media on the other hand only provides a stage for society’s sociopaths and psychopaths to make themselves heard and provide them with a false sense of appreciation that shines their egos.
I would counter that Social Media reduces shame in the extent that people can be anonymous. For all the talk of FB and X and others being the “town square”; at least in the town square people recognize you. On SM one can be as invisible as one likes. Though I agree that as a society what passes for shameful behavior is heading on the same trajectory as the end of the Roman Empire. That does not help. I saw a short video the other by one of these personalities that comment on what others had posted. The original post… Read more »
Ah, but the real question I ask is which cause came first. If the anonymity provided by social media is a fundamental cause of reduced shame, then I have no idea how to explain the shameless behaviors prior to its availability. Such anonymity was available long before the advent of social media — consider the windowless dens of iniquity bearing the “XXX” signs. As a society’s morality degrades, its immoral members become more brazen — regardless of the platforms/stages upon which they parade. In your video example, I’d say that that girl was nothing more than a gossip who desired… Read more »
Mike Tyson said it best. People are too comfortable with no consequences for their words.
Social media is the white hood of the new klan.
That’s an interesting metaphor, and it fits.
I am going to use that one from now on occasionally.
Real world example for the membership. When anyone goes to our Co website and fills out the contact us form, I am one the small handful that gets the form. Well, we got contacted last Friday and it was about what one of our employees had posted on Soc Med and how vile it was. The most interesting thing to me was that there was no doubt in my mind who the employee was. He is a Bernie supporter from way back and has full blown TDS. He keeps a pretty good lid on his position at work as he… Read more »
