Those that don’t understand him say that Donald Trump manned the fry station and the drive-through window at McDonald’s merely in order to troll Kamala Harris and her unsubstantiated claims to have worked at Mickey D’s during her perfectly normal middle-class upbringing. But in this episode of Hot Mic, Bill points out that Trump has done something much deeper than that, and that strangely enough, the image of a President in a fast-food drive-through window offers all regular people a sublime sense of pure HOPE.

The thing that struck me the most about Trump’s performance at McDonald’s was how he treated everyone there with respect. He wasn’t condescending, he wasn’t arrogant or superior, he treated them as valuable individuals, and showed respect. While the jobs aren’t difficult, they do require the basics of any job: show up on time, treat co-workers and customers with respect, be detailed oriented to your tasks, and ideally show initiative to do what needs to be done without being asked to do so.
I think Donald John Trump is a dick. But I’ve softened my position on that a lot because the more of this stuff he does, the more I realize that we can all be a dick sometimes. Being a dick quite often myself, I’m growing more sympathetic to Donald Trump’s dickishness.
