The only thing that is moving faster than Elon Musk’s SpaceX engineers trying to escape the pull of the Earth’s gravity are the government bureaucrats who are determined to tie the rocket to the pad in a tangle of petty, irrelevant, malicious, politically-motivated red tape.

This is just one among many examples of what you get when political power is allowed to fall into the hands of the unaccountable. The whole purpose of the mechanism the Founding Fathers built our Republic around was an attempt to achieve accountability of those in power to the people they hold power over. When people with power are not held accountable, they can and will do whatever they want. Some will genuinely try to do good out of a misguided and exaggerated confidence in their own motives. Why couldn’t Musk sue the federal government for their unfair business practices on this? Call it a monopoly, cite antitrust laws, I don’t know, but if anyone would do it it would be Elon.

It is time to welcome SpaceX to the bureacratic reality that the nuclear power industry has been fighting since the 1970s. In our lifetime, it has become apparent that bureaucrats are nothing more than wannabe tyrants who are bent upon controlling the lives of others since their own inadequacies prevent them from their own personal successes.

Musk posted this today on X: SpaceX plans to launch about five uncrewed Starships to Mars in two years. If those all land safely, then crewed missions are possible in four years. If we encounter challenges, then the crewed missions will be postponed another two years. It is only possible to travel from Earth to Mars every two years, when the planets are aligned. This increases the difficulty of the task, but also serves to immunize Mars from many catastrophic events on Earth.
