Worst Decision of Judge's Life: Gun Rights for Individual Americans

Worst Decision of Judge’s Life: Gun Rights for Individual Americans

Former Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens says the worst decision of his life was the court’s DC v. Heller ruling, which recognized the individual right to keep and bear arms. Of course, Stevens voted with the minority in Heller. In a new book, he says he’s still convinced the framers of the Constitution and Bill of Rights meant to protect gun rights only for use in organized militias. Bill Whittle mansplains to Stevens the meaning of a simple English sentence known as the 2nd Amendment.

Alabama Abortion Ban Tests Roe v. Wade, Jeopardizes Hollywood Business

Alabama state lawmakers pass an abortion ban in hopes of a Supreme Court challenge that overturns Roe v. Wade.. Critics says the pro-life law could spur Hollywood to stop the flow of cash to the state’s growing film business, and cost millions in legal bills. Is this bad timing for Republicans running in 2020, or should President Trump wave this banner all the way to a second term?

San Fran Ban: Cops Can’t Use Facial Recognition

San Francisco became the first U.S. city to ban use of facial recognition by police and other city departments. Will this make it more difficult to catch bad guys who use the cloak of anonymity to blend in? Are we less safe because the police must work with outdated technology? Or did the San Francisco Board of Supervisors finally do something with which red-blooded conservatives and libertarians can agree?

Conservative Fresh Start: All Regulations Cancelled in Idaho

Idaho sunsets all regulations every year, and typically re-approves them as a matter of course…but not this year. The entire regulatory code has been cancelled, and the script has been flipped. If the governor wants to keep a regulation, state government must go through the normal approval process for a new rule. Bill Whittle has started packing his bags to move to a state where a conservative can make a fresh start.

15% Credit Card Cap: Bernie & AOC Attack Loan Sharks in 3-Piece Suits

Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) propose a 15% cap on credit card and consumer loan interest rates — an attack on what they call loan sharks in 3-piece suits. Will this resonate with the American voter who’s deep in high-interest debt? Is this the way to make democratic-socialism palatable?

NY Times Bombshell: Trump Tax Returns Show Huge Losses, Shady Deals

The New York Times has transcripts of Donald Trump’s IRS tax returns from 1985-94. They show huge business losses of $1.17 billion in a decade, and profits from shady deals in which Trump bought stock, spread false rumors of a take-over, then sold his stock quickly at a profit. Will revelations from this “bombshell” story have any effect on Trump supporters or his reelection chances? Do Democrats now have additional reason to press for release of his last six years of tax returns?

Trump Off 2020 Ballot: Democrats in 17 States Demand Tax Returns…or Else

Legislation in 17 states would remove President Donald Trump from the 2020 presidential election ballot if he doesn’t release his tax returns. Trump has said his IRS returns are perfectly legal and his finances excellent, so why shouldn’t the president just release the documents to make the issue go away, and to shut up the Democrats?

“Unrelenting Force”: Trump Sends Carrier Strike Group, Bombers to Deter Iran Threat

President Trump deploys a carrier strike group and bomber task force to the Middle East in response to undisclosed “escalatory” actions by Iran. National Security Advisor John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo say the U.S. will punish the Iranian regime with “unrelenting force” for hostile actions by proxy groups they support, like Hezbollah. Are we on the cusp of war or is this the only way to prevent a fight with a “dominance-based society” like the Islamic Republic of Iran?

CNN Poll: Trump Loses 2020 Election to (Almost) Every Leading Democrat

A CNN poll of 1007 registered voters shows that incumbent President Donald Trump loses a theoretical head-to-head race to nearly every leading Democrat presidential hopeful for the 2020 election…one by a HUGE margin. Can Republicans safely ignore polls like this, or does it tell us something about the electorate that Trump can ignore only at his own peril.

Ruling: High-Testosterone ‘Woman’ Must Take Drugs to Compete

South African runner Caster Semenya must take testosterone-suppressing drugs in order to continue to compete in women’s track events. That’s the ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which acknowledges the decision discriminates, but is better than any conceivable alternative solution. Semenya, and others, say the ruling discriminates against people who are just trying to be who they really are.

“Democracy Dollars” to Make Everyone a Campaign Donor, Cut Power of Wealthy

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand wants to reduce the influence of wealthy white men, and make every voter a campaign donor by giving us all vouchers — drawn on the federal treasury — so we can contribute to candidates of our choosing. Candidates would agree to refuse contributions above $200 in order to receive these “Democracy dollars.” What’s the harm in that? Bill Whittle explains.
